Bilateral Cooperation with South Africa and further countries in the Region Africa
Mandated by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), the University of Basel, since 2007 and in cooperation with the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), has been growing bilateral research cooperation and research-based innovation with partner institutions in South Africa, Rwanda and Nigeria. When the administration of research partnerships and the launch of bilateral research calls was handed over to the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) in 2012 as well as to their sister organisation in South Africa, the National Research Foundation (NRF), awareness building for the research-based innovation activities of African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and the linkage of Switzerland based research-oriented companies to the African market remained in the responsibility of the International Office (IO). Within the SERI mandate, all HEIs in Switzerland are invited to participate in activities launched.
In view of taking stock of 10+ years of cooperation, the International Office together with the University of Stellenbosch/ Stellenbosch Business School (SBS) are inviting to an alumni meeting mid-November 2024 in South Africa.
