The Finances prepares the annual financial statement, annual budget, quarterly reports and cost accounting and manages long-term financial planning activities at the University of Basel. The office also assists with a wide variety of projects conducted by the Administration in order to assess financial implications in a timely manner. As part of the duties of the SAP Competence Center, the office coordinates and monitors planning and implementation activities in the area of operational SAP applications and new SAP projects, and regularly organizes training for applications.
It is the central starting point at the university for all financial questions and guarantees correct and prompt processing of all university transactions (public funds and contributions from third parties) in the university's financial accounting. The office supports the decentralized account officers in matters pertaining to the budget and business transaction accounting. At the same time, the office is authorized to handle technical questions about the university's accounting and compliance with financial regulations and associated directives. As part of the annual financial statements, the office is the central point of contact for the auditors elected by the University Council and for the financial audits conducted by the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft.
