Threats, violence - what to do?

  • Keep calm

  • Stay objective. Do not get involved in discussions.

  • Frustrate or provoke the other person as little as possible.

  • Speak to the person about the threat and communicate clearly that threats will not be tolerated and that you will have to end the conversation if the person does not return to a factual level.

  • If you are threatened with a weapon, comply with the demands and do not play the hero or heroine.

Depending on the situation:

  • Try to stay in the conversation or buy time with an excuse. Hold out the prospect of a solution to the problem.

  • Ask everyone to leave the office / building.

  • Leave / flee the room.

  • Call colleagues for help.

  • Operate emergency call station if available or call the police on 112 or 117.

  • Fight back.
