The Grants Office regularly organizes various events targeted at internal University of Basel researchers, and also an external audience interested in national and international funding schemes. Below, you will find a list of events that have already taken place, as well as those planned for the coming weeks.

    Bridge Proof of Concept Writing Workshop

    What are the best practices for writing a convincing and solid funding proposal?


    Tuesday 02nd September 13h‐15h, Kollegienhaus

    The “BRIDGE Proof of Concept” funding scheme fosters the further development of scientific results to evaluate their market and/or societal potential. It supports researchers on their way to entrepreneurship or their efforts to implement and apply their research results with an economic and/or societal partner.

    It covers any type of innovation or research field, and consists of 130’000CHF budget for one year plus entrepreneurship training/coaching. Applicants can either have obtained a Bachelor's or a Master's degree within the last 4 years, or be a PhD candidate 6 months before their thesis defense and up to 4 years afterwards.

    Please register by email to grants@unibas.ch, indicating the project you would base your application on. The number of place for this workshop is limited.

    Broadening Horizons: Discover the Secrets of EU Projects. Meet the Grantees and Evaluators.

    The Responsible Digital Society Network and the Grants Office are pleased to invite you to the event about Horizon Europe – the European Research and Innovation Framework Programme and how to prepare a strong proposal.

    In the morning we will focus on collaborative projects and give an update on the Status of Switzerland within Horizon Europe. In particular, we will focus on the area of "digital" research. Here we especially address members of the University network Responsible Digital Society but the event is open to researchers from all faculties.  

    During the networking lunch there will be the possibility to talk to the speakers and staff from the Grants Office.

    The session after lunch is dedicated to the ERC (European Research Council) Grants. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive first-hand experience from ERC panel members and successful Grantees.

    Participants will learn how to prepare themselves for an application to one of the major career funding schemes, such as Ambizione, SNF Starting Grant, or Postdoctoral Fellowships (SNF, MSCA). We will discuss principle of Grant writing, evaluation processes, as well as the challenges and requirements for a strong proposal.

    Participants are required to invest time into preparatory work before the course and actively participate in group work during the course. At the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and will have drafted the relevant proposal sections in order to continue towards finalizing their own Grant proposal.
