Application to the Research Ethics Committee

Mandatory review criteria:

• Research projects involving minors, vulnerable persons, or persons lacking the capacity to consent;
• Research projects in which sensitive personal data are processed;
• Research projects in contexts with high risks for researchers, participants, or third parties, for example, projects in conflict zones or authoritarian or fragile contexts;
• Research projects involving high risks to the environment;
• Research projects that fall under the «Regulations on Particularly Risky Research»

If you need approval from the Research Ethics Committee (KFE) for your research project, please send your research ethics application dossier to the KFE office at least six weeks before the relevant meeting: kfe@unibas.ch. The entire approval process takes a maximum of eight weeks, provided there are no major issues or requirements.

Retrospective research ethics reviews will not be issued if research projects have already begun collecting data.
