Certificate in Higher Education Practice 'Basics of Learning and Teaching'
The Educational Development Certificate 'Basics of Learning and Teaching' covers the key topics involved in preparing and delivering contemporary courses. It is intended for members of the University of Basel who are, or will be, involved in teaching at bachelor’s or master’s level, as well as doctoral candidates and candidates pursuing a habilitation at the University of Basel.
- In the courses and their assessments, participants engage with international standards for contemporary learning, teaching, and assessment. Exchanges with peers in the courses encourage participants to consider different perspectives and positions.
- In the Special Interest Group “People & Culture,” participants engage with the values, structures, and processes that shape teaching at the University of Basel and contribute to the University of Basel’s culture of quality.
Target Group
The training program is open to
- members of the University of Basel with at least a master’s degree who are involved in teaching in
- bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the University of Basel
- doctoral candidates at the University of Basel
candidates pursuing a habilitation at the University of Basel who are involved in teaching in bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the University of Basel
Program Structure
The program requires a workload of at least 60 hours. Participants complete 54 hours of continuing education courses from the five modules, as well as the Special Interest Group “People & Culture.”
The courses and the Special Interest Group can be booked individually at fortbildung.unibas.ch under the topic area “Educational Development Certificate.”
Detailed information on the study plan and modules is available in the Regulations and Study Plan 'Basics of Learning and Teaching'.
The training program has an open structure, meaning that participants are free to choose the order in which they attend the courses. They can also choose the date on which they complete the program flexibly. It is recommended that the program be completed within four semesters.
By completing additional elements, the Educational Development Certificate 'Basics of Learning and Teaching' can be expanded to the Educational Development Certificate 'Supporting Learning' or the Educational Development Certificate 'Learning, Teaching and Assessing', which are internationally accredited by SEDA.
Applying for the Certificate
Once all courses required for this certificate and the Special Interest Group have been successfully completed, participants may apply for the Educational Development Certificate ‘Basics of Learning and Teaching’.
