Assessments and Examinations

Since 2020, a university-wide project on quality assurance and development of assessments and examinations has been running at the University of Basel. In this context the University of Basel implemented university-wide quality criteria for assessments and examinations as a basis for the evaluation of assessments and examinations, as well as standards for the regular evaluation of assessments and examinations at the University of Basel. Pilot projects are underway in all faculties to develop questionnaires for the evaluation of assessments and examinations. To further support lecturers, the Department of Educational Development provides a comprehensive workshop offering as well as various checklists for assessments and examinations: Checklist: exams and assessments (in general) (PDF), Checklist written examinations (PDF), Checklist oral examinations (PDF)

Developing as a Teacher in Higher Education

Members of the University of Basel have the opportunity to earn three certificates with different focal points. At the heart of these three training programs is the interaction between students and teachers:
Certifcate in Higher Education Practice 'Basics of Learning and Teaching'
Certificate in Higher Education Practice 'Supporting Learning'
Certificate in Higher Education Practice 'Learning, Teaching, and Assessing'

Teaching Excellence Awards

Every two years, the Department of Educational Development organizes the presentation of Teaching Excellence Awards in five different award categories. The next Teaching Excellence Awards will be presented in 2025.
