Mobility Switzerland Outgoing

Swiss universities have developed procedures to facilitate student mobility within Switzerland. The mobility offices at all universities are responsible for the administrative process and for providing information to students. At the University of Basel, mobility between Swiss universities is managed by Student Exchange.

Scope and Validity of the Swiss Mobility Program

The Swiss Mobility Program allows you to spend one or two semesters at a Swiss university without significant administrative effort. You remain enrolled at your home university, where you continue to pay semester fees. At the host university, however, you do not pay tuition fees. The time-consuming process of de-registration and re-registration is eliminated.

The recognition of study periods and academic achievements completed at the host university, as well as any restrictions, are governed by the implementation of the Bologna Process. You should always clarify any questions regarding credit recognition in advance with the appropriate office (Office of the Dean of Studies, Registrar’s Office, etc.). Generally, a mobility stay is only possible starting in the third semester.

Attention!

During a mobility semester, you are on administrative leave from the University of Basel; this means you cannot enroll in courses at the University of Basel or earn credit points. If you wish to take courses at both the University of Basel and another Swiss university, please contact the Registrar’s Office at the respective university directly regarding registration procedures. Please note the relevant registration deadlines set by the host university. The University of Basel’s Student Exchange program is not involved in this process.

Registration Dates

For the fall semester: April 1
For the spring semester: October 1
