Mission Statement
The University of Basel was founded in 1460, modeled on the universities of Bologna and Paris in the context of European humanism. It is the oldest university in Switzerland and one of the oldest in Europe. As a distinguished university with strong faculties, we offer programs in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, with a distinct focus on life sciences and medicine.
Organization
Under the University Council, the Rectorate manages all university-wide affairs. The Rectorate consists of the Rector, the three Vice Rectorates for Research, Teaching, and People & Culture, as well as the two Directorates for Finance and Infrastructure & Operations.
Vice Rectorate People & Culture
The Vice President's Office for People & Culture brings together the areas of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, National and International Cooperation, as well as services for students, staff, and alumni.
