Veranstaltungskalender

Die Teilnehmerinnen lernen die ausgewählten Wissenschaften in ihren Grundzügen kennen und sie wertzuschätzen. Sie werden anhand von Beispielen dazu motiviert, darüber nachzudenken, wie ihre eigene akademische Disziplin mit anderen ausgewählten Disziplinen zusammenhängt: Dies ermöglicht ihnen eine Übersicht über die Wissenschaften. Sie erwerben eine erste Grundlage für eine breite gesamtwissenschaftliche, inter- und transdisziplinäre Grundkompetenz, die ihren Beitrag zur Lösung gesellschaftlicher Probleme leisten kann.

Die folgenden Disziplinen werden dazu vorgestellt:

5. Philologie und Literaturwissenschaften
6. Ökonomie
7. Theologie
8. Medizin
9. Psychologie
10. Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften
11. Rechtswissenschaften (vakant)
12. Philosophie und Wissenschaftstheorie
13. Inter- und transdisziplinäre Grundlagen der Zusammenarbeit.
Die Reihenfolge ist durch die Verfügbarkeit der Dozentinnen und Dozenten bestimmt.

Eine Ringvorlesung mit kulturwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven auf den Eurovision Song Contest in Basel 2025.

Vom 19. bis zum 24. Mai 2025 findet auch in diesem Jahr wieder die beliebte Tour Eucor statt. Im Rahmen dieser werden alle fünf Eucor-Universitäten mit dem Fahrrad angesteuert.

​Die fünf Städte des European Campus mit dem Fahrrad verbinden und den europäischen Gedanken im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes „erfahren“ – das ist die Idee der Tour Eucor. Jedes Jahr fahren an fünf Tagen im Frühjahr circa 120 Teilnehmende von Karlsruhe über Strasbourg, Mulhouse und Basel nach Freiburg und zurück nach Karlsruhe.

Die Studierenden, Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter sowie Alumni und Alumnae der fünf Universitäten können zwischen verschiedenen Schwierigkeitsgraden wählen und legen insgesamt zwischen 600 und 900 km zurück. Die studentische Initiative gibt es bereits seit 1998 und wird mittlerweile von einem eigens hierfür gegründeten Verein, dem Tour Eucor e.V., organisiert.

Die Ringvorlesung, welche anlässlich des 65. Geburtstages von Prof. Dr. Lukas Rosenthaler durchgeführt wird, lädt führende interdisziplinäre nationale Experten ein, die zur Zukunft der "Digital Humanities" ihre persönliche Einschätzungen darlegen.
 

Die Universität Basel verleiht im Frühjahrsemester 2025 in fünf Preiskategorien Teaching Excellence Awards für exzellente Lehre.

Am 19. Mai findet um 17.00 Uhr im Kollegienhaus die öffentliche Verleihung der Teaching Excellence Awards 2025 statt, zu der alle Universitätsangehörigen eingeladen sind. Die Veranstaltung wird moderiert von Prof. Dr. Thomas Grob, Vizerektor Lehre.

Programm:

• 17.00 Uhr: Beginn der feierlichen Preisverleihung
• 18.00 Uhr: Apéro mit Getränken, Snacks und musikalischer Begleitung

Il y a quelques mois, Maryvonne de Saint Pulgent est venue nous parler de Notre-Dame de Paris, à laquelle elle a consacré une monographie qui fait référence. Distinguée par plusieurs prix prestigieux, elle a connu un large succès. En février 2025 paraîtra, toujours dans la « Bibliothèque illustrée des Histoires », chez Gallimard, son nouveau livre Les musiciens et le pouvoir en France, auquel elle a travaillé depuis de nombreuses années. Il est consacré à un aspect très particulier de la politique culturelle française : les relations des musiciens avec le pouvoir. C’est l’occasion de réinviter une personnalité qui a marqué de son empreinte le Conseil d’Etat, le ministère de la Culture et la vie intellectuelle française.

Depuis 1918, la Société d’études françaises de Bâle contribue au rayonnement de la culture française et francophone. Elle organise une vingtaine de conférences par an.

The global science festival Pint of Science events take place every year across 500 cities and 27 countries and are growing in popularity. A number of science-based presentations are arranged in local pubs with the main objective of bringing science to the general public in a relaxed and casual environment. 

In 2025, we are looking forward to organising the event again in bars and pubs between May 19-21. Every year during the festival people come to the local bars to hear funny, relaxed and informative talks from local scientists and learn something new about the world and the human society. Here is the opportunity for you to meet people eager to share their research over a pint of beer!

A Picture Says More Than a Thousand Words: Striking Visuals to Communicate Complex Science

As scientists, we are incredibly enthusiastic about what we do, but it's often hard to translate it into understandable information for people outside of our little scientific bubble. And this is exactly, where good graphics and illustrations can help us the most! In my talk I’ll show you how I have used visuals to communicate some of our research with friends, family, the public, and high-school students.

Communicating science visually is often a delicate balance between presenting all the subtleties and context of a topic and creating something that is understandable, even aesthetically pleasing, to the audience. Where is the line between elegant simplicity and oversimplification? How far can one take artistic interpretation without distorting the concept? What ethical considerations come into play?

As a filmmaker working with fields ranging from AI to psychiatric neuroscience and geology, I face these questions on a regular basis. And, while my talk might not have all the answers, I hope it will lay the groundwork for you to create beautiful and informative visuals of your own

Remembrance Membrane – Ideonella sakaiensis and PET

My focus is unambiguous: sustainability in today's world. I aim to establish an aesthetic sensitivity that bridges boundaries and allows glimpses into the future while incorporating cutting-edge scientific research. I am currently working with a material scientist on a project. We are researching bacterial decomposition of a PET sculpture. The bacteria culture in question is called Ideonella sakaiensis and its ability to degrade plastic waste is very promising. This work shows the vital importance of an essentially invisible microbe to human existence and questions the widely hold assumption that complex life emerged from simple organisms. The other way around is more likely. Life sprang into existence from an unfathomable degree of complexity.
