New offer: emergency childcare
Your child is sick, but you have obligations at the university that cannot be easily postponed?
If you are studying or working at the University of Basel there is a solution for this situation. In cooperation with the Swiss Red Cross, the «Hütedienst für kranke Kinder» is offered. You call and within four hours a trained and experienced caregiver will take care of your child.
The free emergency childcare is aimed at student or employee parents or guardians who live in the cantons of Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft, Solothurn and Aargau and applies to children up to 12 years of age.

Certification family and work
The family-friendly university audit certificate was granted on September 30, 2021.
The values of the University of Basel are based on appreciation and tolerance of the personal context of the members of the university. We want to promote a high level of motivation and productivity among the members of the university by making it possible to study and work in a way that is appropriate to the phases of life. We want to think about this systematically in our processes and embed it in our culture. Appropriate measures from the auditing process will support us in further developing our university in this regard. Our vision is to be the pioneer of family-friendly universities in Switzerland.

Member of «Familie in der Hochschule» Network
The University of Basel is a member of the «Familie in der Hochschule» Network and signed the associated Charter (GER) in June 2021.
The University of Basel considers a lived and cultivated diversity as a prerequisite for excellence in all its fields of activity. In this context, family-friendliness is a central concern for the University, and attention is paid to this in studies, teaching, research and administration. In accordance with the charter it pursues the following goals:
- It raises its profile as a family-friendly employer in the national university context.
- It improves the framework conditions for students with family commitments.
- It defines a contemporary concept of family for itself and ensures that it is taken into account in the corresponding processes and measures.
- It enables its managers to live an appreciative and family-oriented management culture.
