Dr. Jürgen Rümmele, who has been working in the Finance department at the University of Basel since 1998 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer by the University Council in 2021, will retire next spring. His successor Remo Anceschi is currently CFO and Head of Finance at St. Clara-Gruppe AG, which includes St. Claraspital AG, St. Clara Forschungs AG and Clarunis AG. From 2005 to 2022, Remo Anceschi was Head of Finance and Services at the Cantonal Hospital Baselland. He graduated from the Higher Economics and Management School (HWV) in Basel, where he earned a degree in business administration. Remo Anceschi lives in Liestal with his long-term partner and has four adult children.

“In Remo Anceschi, we have gained a proven financial expert for this challenging task,” says Dr. Beat Oberlin, President of the University Council. “What’s more, he not only knows the local hospital landscape extremely well, but also our university inside out.” For President Professor Andrea Schenker-Wicki, it is a benefit “that in Remo Anceschi, we will have someone for the Finance department in the President’s Office who, thanks to his extensive professional experience, understands the unique characteristics of a university and is well-acquainted with the challenging interface between the university and the hospitals.” The current Chief Financial Officer, Dr. Jürgen Rümmele, will hand over his leadership role to Remo Anceschi on 1 May 2026 and will remain available to him for another three months as part of an orderly transition.
