You should know which program and, in the case of a degree in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which subjects you want to apply for also when applying as a visiting student.

That choice must be in a related program / related subjects to your previous studies in Ukraine.

You can find information about our offer of degree programs and degree subjects on the bachelor's studies information sheet: degree programs offered by the various faculties and by visiting degree programs or the websites of the specific faculties. German is the primary language of instruction for bachelor's degree programs.

The following admission conditions apply to the special visiting student status for students from Ukraine:

• Proof of protection status S
• Proof of university matriculation in a related study program on bachelor level at a Ukrainian university (accreditation level III or IV).

Admission as a visiting student is generally restricted to three semesters.Visiting students essentially enjoy the same rights at the University of Basel as regular students (i.e. attending courses, taking exams including earning credit points, receipt of a UNIcard and a university email address), but they are not eligible to earn academic degrees at the University of Basel.

The application fee and the semester fees are waived for the duration of their stay as a visiting student. In principle, it is possible to later be admitted to regular studies on request if the admission requirements are met (www.unibas.ch/admission).

There is no visiting student status for programs with admission restrictions (bachelor programs Medicine as well as Sport, Exercise and Health, master programs Medicine, Dental Medicine and Nursing Science).

No evidence of language skills is required.

However, we need to point out that German is the primary language of instruction for bachelor's degree programs. The corresponding language skills are prerequisites for the successful completion of a degree program.

All language skills should be at a level of C1 or higher based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (see Self-Assessment Grids).

Students are responsible for having attained the language skills required to successfully pursue their chosen degree program. Examination failures cannot be excused by insufficient language skills.

The Language Center of the University of Basel helps students acquire language skills at the necessary level (sprachenzentrum.unibas.ch).

Before you can submit an application, you need to set up a user account.

Once you have logged in, you will receive an email from the Student Administration Office with an activation link. This allows you to access the portal. If you haven’t received an email, check your spam folder.

Make sure that you provide an email address where you can be reached throughout the admission process. All information and documents from the university regarding your application will be sent to you via the application portal. Whenever this happens, a notification will be sent to your email address.

After you have set up a user account, you can apply to study at the university using an online form on the application portal.

There are six steps in the application process. We recommend that you complete the individual sections in order, as they follow on from one another. You can log out at any time and resume work on the application later.

The online form asks you to provide details of your educational qualifications (high school, higher education etc.) and personal information, and to upload the required documents.

Documents that are in Ukrainian should be accompanied by a translation into German or English.

This does not have to be an official translation. If necessary, you can make the translation yourself. In this case, it will be checked by an internal University of Basel body.

The University of Basel waives the application fee (CHF 100.-) for students applying as special visiting students from Ukraine. To benefit from this offer, you need to proceed as follows:

• Complete the application (all checkmarks except for that concerning the payment must be green).
• Send a request via the support form in the application portal with the keyword "Visiting Student Ukraine".

Your application will be completed by the Student Administration Office. You will then receive a confirmation of receipt.
