The Way of Water – From the Rhine to Your HomeVeranstaltung im Rahmen der Nachhaltigkeitswoche 2023
(Bild: zvg/Gion Durisch) We almost take for granted to have fresh and qualitatively impeccable drinking water in sufficient quantities at all times. But what effort and infrastructure are behind it? In order to be able to sustainably meet the drinking water needs of the city of Basel, the natural groundwater is enriched with water from the Rhine. In the wooded watering places of the Lange Erlen, billions of soil organisms do most of the cleaning for us.
The use of this natural cleaning process is unique in this way and proves to be very good. During a two-hour guided tour of the plant in the Lange Erlen, the unique biological purification process of the drinking water and the supplementary treatment stages are explained in an exciting way.
