Welcome to GRACE!
The Graduate Center creates optimal conditions for successful (post)doctoral studies. It contributes to the development of functioning structures in the field of doctoral studies at the University of Basel that are in line with the university’s mission statement and strategy as well as its quality standards and demand for competitiveness. GRACE promotes interdisciplinary exchange and prepares researchers for future challenges inside and outside of academia. In addition to offering various training formats and organizing networking events, GRACE is a contact and service point for concerns regarding all aspects of (post)doctoral studies.

diss:kurs 2027
diss:kurs is an event where doctoral candidates and postdocs of the University of Basel present their research project to a wider public. The next diss:kurs will take place on June 3, 2027, 5:00 pm at Tabourettli. The presentations are followed by an apéro riche. More details about the event are available on the diss:kurs webpage.
8th Global Science Film Festival
The 8th Global Science Film Festival took place in Basel, Bern and Zurich. The festival program included screenings of short and full-length films, followed by discussions between researchers and filmmakers. The event at Stadtkino Basel on 24 October 2026 began with five short films produced with the involvement of researchers from the University of Basel. The program then continued with a screening of the documentary «Conscious».
PRIDE Network
The University of Basel is now a member of the PRIDE Network – The Network for Professionals in Doctoral Education. The European network brings together professionals and organizational units from different higher education institutions that contribute to shaping and developing doctoral education. It promotes collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and experience across institutions, and offers specialised training and networking opportunities. Among its members are the University of Vienna, the University of Zurich, and the University of Oslo.
Information Event for New PhD Candidates and Postdocs
On September 24, 2026 from 12 to 1:30 p.m., the Graduate Center is organizing an Information Event for new PhD candidates and Postdocs. The event will be held online. Together with all central services of the university, GRACE will provide you with important information for your time here in Basel – from Career Advancement to Transferable Skills. The zoom-link for the event will be made available in due time via the PhD and Postdoc mailing list. In the evening of the same day, there will also be an apéro organized by the assistants’ association avuba where new PhD candidates and Postdocs can get to know each other.
Newsletter
The GRACE newsletter is sent out twice a year and contains news about the Graduate Center, references to events and information relevant to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers. In order to sign up for the newsletter, send an e-mail with “Newsletter” in the subject line to grace@unibas.ch.
