Andreas Müller appointed Professor of International Economics

The University of Basel has appointed Andreas Müller as Professor of International Economics at the Faculty of Business and Economics. The appointment will mark a return to Switzerland for the 40-year-old professor. The University Council has also approved two professorships.

Andreas Müller has been working as an associate professor in the University of Essex’s Department of Economics since 2021. His research focus is in the field of international macroeconomics, in particular international finance, development and growth, and political economy. He is set to take up the tenure track assistant professorship on 1 January 2023.

Born in 1981, Müller completed a master’s degree at the University of Zurich and went on to earn a doctorate there in 2013 with his thesis on dynamic public finance. Research stays have included Yale University, the University of Lausanne and Goethe University Frankfurt. Before becoming an assistant professor at the University of Essex in 2017, he spent four years at the University of Oslo as an assistant professor.

Professorships in the Faculty of Medicine

The University Council has also approved two professorships: a professorship in child and adolescent psychiatry, affiliated to the University Psychiatric Clinics (UPK) Basel, and a professorship in clinical pharmacology and toxicology, created with the aim of establishing a research focus.
