Hendrik Scholl receives honorary doctorate from Semmelweis University

Prof. Dr. Hendrik Scholl, Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Basel and Clinical Director of the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB), has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Semmelweis University in Hungary.

The Faculty of Medicine granted this award to Scholl in recognition of his remarkable scientific achievements and long-standing collaboration with Semmelweis University. The honorary doctorate was presented on 16 November 2023 in Budapest.

Since 2016, Hendrik Scholl has been serving as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Basel and Chief Physician and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Basel. Additionally, he is the Co-Director of the IOB. His research focuses on the treatment of retinal diseases, specifically inherited retinal and macular dystrophies, as well as research into retinal neurodegeneration.

Scholl is also the President of the European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network (EVICR.net), which includes the Eye Clinics at Semmelweis University and in Basel. He has authored over 250 articles and reviews in scientific journals and been honored with several prestigious awards in Europe and the United States.
