Habt ihr euch schon einmal gefragt, wie Supercomputer komplexe Probleme lösen, wie man in einer virtuellen Realität Schach spielt oder ob Smart-TVs uns überwachen? All das könnt ihr auf der «Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con» herausfinden. Das Departement Mathematik und Informatik der Universität Basel lädt dazu ein, in diese spannenden Forschungsfelder einzutauchen.

Mit interaktiven Exponaten machen drei Forschungsgruppen abstrakte Forschung greifbar. Kleine wie grosse Besucher*innen haben hier die Möglichkeit, selbst auszuprobieren und Fragen zu stellen.

Am Stand des Departements werden Exponate der Forschungsgruppen «Databases and Information Systems», «Privacy-Enhancing Technologies» und «High Performance Computing» gezeigt. Sie finden den Stand im der Sci-Fi & Space Zone.

Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con

Die Fantasy Basel ist das Festival für Film-, Game-, Comic- und Cosplayfans. Mit über 97'000 Besucherinnen und Besuchern im Jahr 2025 ist sie die grösste Veranstaltung für Popkultur in der Schweiz und die wohl vielseitigste in Europa. 

An drei Tagen kommen Fans mit den unterschiedlichsten Interessen zusammen, um ihre Liebe zu Filmen, Serien, Comics, Cosplay, Gaming, Superhelden, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Anime und vielem mehr zu feiern. Triff alte und neue Freunde und feiere gemeinsam mit ihnen die Freude an verschiedensten Fandoms und am Nerd-Sein. Mit einem umfassenden Programm, das sich auf insgesamt acht Bühnen und über 800 Stände verteilt, bietet das Festival eine schier endlose Bandbreite von Aktivitäten, Sehenswürdigkeiten und Erlebnissen.

This panel discussion will reflect on the central ideas and broader implications of the exhibition The First Homosexuals. It will start with an introduction to the exhibition’s conceptual framework by Jonathan D. Katz, followed by a conversation that will explore what it means to center homosexuality — a term that emerged in the late nineteenth century from legal theory, psychiatry, and medicine — as an art-historical category. What is gained by understanding art as a record of queer life and experience? How can queer perspectives help us to understand certain works anew? The panel will situate the exhibition within current debates in queer art history and in relation to other recent exhibitions. Particular attention will be given to the Swiss context of this second iteration following Chicago, as well as the exhibition’s engagement with questions of colonialism.

Kunstmuseum Basel and Kunsthistorisches Seminar, Laurenz-Professur für Zeitgenössische Kunst

This one-day workshop, organized in conjunction with the exhibition The First Homosexuals: The Birth of New Identities 1869–1939 at the Kunstmuseum Basel, engages with the methods and terms of queer art history. Curator Jonathan D. Katz and associate curator Johnny Willis will share insights into the exhibition’s conceptual framework and the research process behind this scholarly exhibition and publication project. A central aim of the workshop is to explore what queer methodologies can contribute to art historical inquiry, while also critically addressing unresolved questions and reflecting on the project’s limitations and omissions. The morning session, held at the museum, will consist of a joint walkthrough of the exhibition and discussion of selected works. The afternoon session, hosted at eikones, will focus on lesbian and trans artists, as well as the question of colonialism. It will further develop questions of methodology and terminology through a discussion of readings circulated in advance.

Vortrag von  Dr. Wolfgang Wienand, CEO Lonza Group AG, im Rahmen der Vortragsreihe der Statistisch-Volkswirtschaftlichen Gesellschaft Basel.

Dr. Wolfgang Wienand ist seit Sommer 2024 Chief Executive Officer (CEO) der Lonza Group AG, eines weltweit tätigen Auftragsentwicklers und -herstellers für die Pharma- und Biotechnologiebranche mit Sitz in Basel. Er studierte Chemie an der Universität Bonn und promovierte in organischer und bioorganischer Chemie. Als Sportfechter nahm er an zwei Olympischen Spielen teil.

Seine berufliche Laufbahn begann er beim deutschen Spezialchemieunternehmen Evonik Industries, bevor er 2010 zum Schweizer Auftragsentwicklungs- und Produktionsunternehmens (CDMO) Siegfried Holding AG wechselte, wo er verschiedene Führungspositionen innehatte und von 2019 bis 2024 als CEO tätig war. Er verfügt über umfangreiche Erfahrung in der pharmazeutischen Industrie sowie in der strategischen Unternehmensführung.

Statistisch-Volkswirtschaftliche Gesellschaft Basel

Die Statistisch-Volkswirtschaftliche Gesellschaft Basel, 1870 gegründet, veranstaltet sechs Vorträge pro Jahr zu brandaktuellen Themen aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft. Dazu lädt sie hochkarätige nationale und internationale Referenten ein.

Die Platzzahl ist beschränkt, es ist keine Anmeldung erforderlich. Mitglieder und Gäste sind zu diesem öffentlichen Anlass herzlich eingeladen. Über Ihre Teilnahme freuen wir uns.

Der Schweizer Verkehr verursacht gesellschaftliche Kosten in der Höhe von rund 20 Milliarden Franken pro Jahr, in der Form von Klimaschäden, Stau und Gesundheitsfolgen. Diese Kosten sind in den momentanen Preisen von Mobilität nicht berücksichtigt und folglich auch nicht gedeckt.

In seinem Vortrag präsentiert Beat Hintermann, Professor für Öffentliche Finanzen, Resultate aus drei Feldexperimenten in der Schweiz, die untersuchen, wie das individuelle Verkehrsverhalten auf unterschiedliche Instrumente reagiert, welche das Ziel haben, die externen Kosten zu senken.

Seine Studien basieren auf GPS-Daten von rund 8000 Teilnehmenden und kombinieren monetäre und nicht-monetäre Ansätze. Die Resultate zeigen Wege auf, wie gezielte Bepreisung von Verkehr zu einem nachhaltigeren Verkehrsverhalten führen kann.

This workshop is dedicated to the imaginaries and investigations of a range of physical demarcations that are, literally, borders alive in and of themselves. It addresses borders made from biological material such as skin, shell, crust, membrane, hide, bark, or epidermis, but also artificially made ‘living’ skins and ecological borders. Bringing together knowledge from history and aesthetics, biology, ecology and biomedical engineering the workshop interrogates the manifold ways in which humans relate to living borders, it explores forms of imagining, visualizing and modeling living borders, and it strives to develop new ideas and practices bridging the science-humanities divide in conceiving of living borders as simultaneously scientific and cultural objects of study.
