In 2026, the Swiss 3Rs Day comes to Basel - the heart of Swiss biomedical research. This year, we focus on immunology and infectious disease, two fields where scientific progress is urgently needed and where new approaches can significantly advance the Replacement, Reduction and Refinement of animal use.
The event brings together researchers, animal welfare specialists, clinicians, policymakers, and 3Rs innovators to explore:
Human-relevant models, from organoids to microphysiological systems, that help us understand immune responses and host–pathogen interactions
Refined preclinical approaches that improve animal welfare while strengthening scientific outcomes
Reduction strategies, including data sharing, advanced study design and new computational tools
Progress in Replacement technologies, including in vitro and in silico models for vaccine and drug discovery
The future of 3Rs implementation across Swiss universities, industry, and hospitals
3Rs Day 2026 will feature keynote talks, parallel sessions, interactive workshops, and opportunities to connect with colleagues driving change in Switzerland and beyond.
The University of Basel calendar lists events offered by the University of Basel, its numerous units, and accredited student organizations and associated institutions. They address a larger audience, are public and open to all. As a rule, admission is free.
You can also have your event listed in the Calendar of Events, provided it meets the above criteria. To do so, send the title, short text, time, place, organizer, link to website and, if available, photo (JPG) and program flyer (PDF) to E-Mail: agenda@unibas.ch
