Prof. Dr. Samuel Allemann

Samuel Allemann studied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Basel and earned his doctorate in 2017. He also holds a Swiss federal diploma in pharmacy and worked as a clinical pharmacist for Solothurner Spitäler and as an expert for the Swiss pharmacists’ association pharmaSuisse. Following a postdoctoral stay at the University of Lyon I, he returned to the University of Basel, where he was appointed assistant professor in 2021.

Professor Allemann develops data-based approaches for personalized pharmaceutical care. His research combines pharmacogenetics, medication adherence and interprofessional medication management with the aim of making the use of medication in chronic and complex diseases safer, more effective and more suitable for everyday use. He develops and evaluates pharmacy-led services, digital support and monitoring approaches and new care models for primary care. A particular focus is on the question of how personalized pharmaceutical interventions can be successfully integrated into routine care. His methodological approach is practical and uses routine data, electronic health data and various qualitative and quantitative methods, among other things. In this way, he contributes to the advancement of personalized medicine and to quality-oriented healthcare.

Process for appointing a new president

The term of office of the current president of the university, Professor Andrea Schenker-Wicki, will end when she retires in summer 2027. The Senate has now initiated the process for selecting her successor. The appointment is made by the Senate and requires confirmation from the University Council. To prepare for this, a broad-based committee will be appointed, comprising members of the Senate Committee, deans and members of the President’s Board.

Once the process and the job advertisement are approved towards the end of April 2026, applications may be submitted. Applications will be examined as part of a multi-stage process and suitable candidates will be invited to hearings. On this basis, the Senate Committee will submit an application to the Senate, which will hold a secret ballot in November 2026. Finally, the University Council must confirm the decision.
