Personalized Health Basel

A joint project organization of the University of Basel and the University Hospitals of the Basel area, Personalized Health Basel (PHB) is committed to advancing healthcare through innovation, data-driven research, and clinical translation, for the benefit of patients, science, and society.
Our mission is to transform the Basel region into a leading hub for personalized health by:
- Streamlining data-driven clinical and research processes
- Building modern IT and data infrastructures
- Facilitating interdisciplinary and translational collaboration
- Fostering partnerships between academia and industry
We bridge gaps in data and biospecimen access by developing infrastructure that enables secure sharing and analysis across clinical and research networks. This paves the way for translational research, breakthrough diagnostics and treatments, and improved prevention and clinical care. Working with translational labs, we integrate advanced analytics and decision-support tools into clinical workflows, turning innovation into routine practice.
PHB contributes to national initiatives such as Swiss Personalized Health Network (SPHN) and Personalized Health Related Technologies (PHRT), while also engaging in cross-border projects, within the upper Rhine region and beyond, like Clinnova. We also actively foster partnerships with the private sector in the Basel region to drive innovation.
By providing IT and data expertise, coordinating efforts, and leveraging existing resources, PHB empowers researchers, clinicians, and health authorities to deliver the future of personalized healthcare.
'Democratizing the Health Data Ecosystem: From Challenges to Solutions'
The 8th workshop of the Personalized Health Series is jointly organized by Personalized Health Basel (PHB), the Innovation Office of the University of Basel and DayOne.
The digital transformation of healthcare relies on the responsible and effective sharing of clinical data. While the potential is tremendous, real-world implementation comes with significant challenges.
This workshop places a spotlight on the real-world challenges of health data sharing: technical, ethical, regulatory, and organizational. By bringing together stakeholders from health institutions, academia, industry, and the public sector, we aim to create an open forum where obstacles can be freely discussed, and lessons can be shared. The primary goal is to explore the complexities of sharing clinical data in practice - what has worked, what has not, and how we can move forward together.

🎉 PHB is thrilled to announce the winner of the PHB Translational Award 2025! 🎉
The PHB Translational Award seeks proposals for projects that demonstrate a strong potential to significantly impact clinical practices or patient outcomes. We received numerous outstanding and innovative proposals, and we would like to sincerely thank all applicants for their interest and the time invested in preparing their submissions. While we were only able to fund one project this year, the high level of engagement has truly inspired us—and we are excited to announce that we plan to launch another call next year, so stay tuned!
👏 We are pleased to congratulate Dr. Benjamin Thiele, Consultant in Medical Oncology! 👏
The award will support part of Dr. Thiele’s position over a 12-month period starting June 1, 2025, enabling him to dedicate time away from clinical duties to focus on this innovative project:
