Recently, postcolonial theories have been criticised in various ways and sometimes with great vehemence. The current debate on postcolonial theories often proves to be polemical and characterised by both resentment and misunderstandings.
The panel discussion sees itself as an intervention against simplifications and seeks a differentiated discussion about what postcolonial theories are, what they are capable of achieving and where their weaknesses lie.
The panel discussion will feature four researchers who all deal with postcolonial theories from different perspectives:
Prof. Dr. Falestin Naïli, Middle Eastern Studies, University of Basel
Prof. Dr. Erik Petry, Centre for Jewish Studies, University of Basel
Dr. Henri-Michel Yéré, Sociology, African Studies, University of Basel
PD Dr. Kijan Espahangizi, Department of History, University of Zurich
The panel discussion will be moderated by Christoph Keller.
This event is organized by the History Student's Association in collaboration with the Department of History at the University of Basel. A reception will follow in the foyer in front of the auditorium.
Most of the event will be held in German, with parts in English. English translation will be provided for the German sections.
