A short stroll through the last years of research with psychedelics conducted by the division of clinical pharmacology and toxicology at the University Hospital Basel. In recent years evidence is re-growing that psychedelics might have beneficial effects on symptoms of depression or anxiety. Besides taking a closer look on how psychedelics can be used as tools in psychiatry and psychotherapy, there is a need of investigating their acute psychological and physiological effects. What are positive or negative effects of a substance? Which dose can be regarded as safe? Are there some similarities or differences between substances? Focus of our research lies on characterizing the acute effects of classical psychedelics like LSD, psilocybin, DMT and mescaline. The presentation will give an overview of recent findings in our lab of how psychedelics induce their effects on a pharmacological, psychological and physiological level.

Arcadia
A play by Tom Stoppard, performed by The Gay Beggars drama group
April 10th, 1809: In a country house in Derbyshire, the garden is uprooted, romantic poets cause chaos, and a young girl makes revolutionary scientific and mathematical discoveries. 200 years later, academics try to piece together the mystery of what happened that day.
Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, written in 1993, is exciting, funny, and nerdy, exploring the relationship between past and present, order and chaos, science and the humanities, Classicism and Romanticism, and a whole lot more! Directed by Melanie Löw and Jonas Biedermann.
Special event: after the show on Sunday 26th, there'll be a Q&A session with the production team and some actors, which is free to attend irrespective of which (if any) performance you attend.
Bar & box office open 60 minutes before show time, doors to the theatre open 30 minutes before show time – you can freely choose your seats. The performance will be in English, and have an approx. runtime of 2.5 hours including intermission.
Tickets
Go to http://eventfrog.ch/ArcadiaGB to get your tickets! There will be tickets available on the evenings, but we recommend getting tickets in advance as shows often sell out.
The Gay Beggars
The Gay Beggars are an independent non-professional theatre company which specialises in the production of plays written in English. Founded by students of the English Seminar in 1941, the Gay Beggars have managed to keep up the long-standing tradition of staging at least one play a year. The late Prof. Rudolf Stamm instigated their use of the marvellous Cellar Theatre, which opened in 1969. In addition to the annual performances in the Cellar Theatre, there have been many performances in other venues in Switzerland and Europe.
People with an insatiable interest in theatre and a reasonably good command of the English language are very welcome to look in and join the Gay Beggars. Though quite demanding and time-consuming, theatre work with the Gay Beggars offers you a brilliant opportunity to get involved in a rewarding activity and get to know other students.
