This program invites advanced master's students, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers of all disciplinary fields to learn about trends in Swiss and Global Higher Education and Research and to broaden the skills set for future career paths in a continously globalizing academic world. By joining the HEAR Global courses, participants receive access to a large network of peers and HEAR Global alumni across the globe. This course program is open to graduate students and researchers from all Swiss universities and EUCOR - The European Campus.
About the program
The Higher Education and Research Program HEAR Global 2019 will be hosted by the Faculty of Business and Economics. In a joint workshop, Professor Antonio Loprieno (History of Institutions) and Professor Karen De Pauw (Virginia Tech; Department of Sociology) will convene Basel, EUCOR and US course participants to discuss differences and commonalities of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as well as career pathways in the US, Switzerland and Europe at large. In a public lecture given by Prof. Loprieno in the evening of the same day, results will be presented to a larger academic public and embedded in the framework of current challenges and changes for HEIs.
Registration for HEAR Global courses take place within the Graduate Center's course offers. Interested students and researchers are invited to follow the GRACE link.
In addition to the program in Basel, participants are invited to spend one additional day at the University of Strasbourg (optional) with travel costs covered by EUCOR - The European Campus. In 2019, the visit to Strasbourg will take place on Wednesday, 29th of May.
HEAR Global Alumni Network
HEAR Global hosts an ever growing network of forward looking individuals engaging in global academic networks and partnerships. This network provides a framework for continuous reflection and academic support for younger colleagues and those eager to learn and connect with the academic labour market.
HEAR Global Input Seminars
The HEAR Global input seminars are courses open to advanced master's students, PHD candidates and postdoctoral researchers from all Swiss and from EUCOR - The European Campus Universities. These courses introduce to current topics of Global Higher Education as well as to career skills sets needed for the US, Switzerland and France. Interested students register with the Graduate Center of Uni Basel. The three seminars prepare participants for the (voluntary) attendance of a Global Forum on Higher Education organized in Riva San Vitale (Ticino) at the premises of US partner Virginia Tech.
GPP - HEAR Global manuals
Jointly published by the University of Basel and Virginia Tech, the GPP - HEAR Global manuals and blogs reflect experiences of exchange and mutual learning with both Swiss and US participants. They all address needs and challenges set by an ever changing Global Higher Education landscape.
