The University of Basel promotes disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research on topics relating to sustainable development and thus makes an active contribution to current challenges such as energy supplies, ecological diversity, use of resources and social justice.


Competencies in the Area of Sustainability Research at the University of Basel

SCCER CREST

Competence Center for Research in Energy, Society and Transition

The SCCER CREST will bring together research groups from almost all major Swiss research institutions and fill important gaps in the research landscape. It will be one of the strongest research centers in this field worldwide, cooperate closely with partners from industry, public administration, and policy consulting, and will work together closely with the technical SCCER


 

Upper Rhine Cluster for sustainability research

Members of this project’s consortium are the Eucor-universities Basel, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Mulhouse, and Strasbourg, as well as the University of Koblenz-Landau, site Landau. In addition, a number of universities of applied sciences and research institutes join it as associated members. More than 55 researchers have committed themselves to collaborate.

Contentwise, the cluster will focus on the overarching topic “Governance of sustainable growth” and will organize the related research activities along five thematic sub-axes:
•    Governance
•    Electricity, infrastructure and societal change
•    Transformation and innovation
•    Management of resources
•    Multiculturalism and multilingualism
