GPP 2012 – Access to and within Higher Education

GPP 2012 focussed on the theme Access to and within higher education. Historically access to higher education has been limited by gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and more – what now are the realities around the world? Individuals and access to HE; knowledge generation & dissemination; the where and how of HE and academic career paths were some of the topics explored throughout the course of the programme. Programme participants were challenged to rethink existing ideas of higher education, examining higher education for tomorrow.

Thanks to the exchange with American students [plus faculty and admin staff], we realised how different our educational systems are, what could be different and why. One system does not necessarily have to learn from the other, but finding similarities and especially differences allows to find and define the categories that could be questioned. And more important: the intercultural dialogue not only helps to ask the crucial questions but also shows possible alternatives that previously might have been beyond imagination.
