The university uses the appointment process developed in 2013 in accordance with the Quality Strat-egy 2014-2017.
The appointment procedures aim to attract outstanding applicants for posts within the university in the areas of research, teaching, services and university administration. Appointment procedures are based on the individual strategic development and structural plans (ESPs) of each faculty. In accord-ance with the relevant ESPs, the procedures are executed by a special appointment committee in which the various groups (including students), a member of the President's Board and an equal op-portunities officer are all represented. The committees define in detail the quality requirements for candidates and review the applicants. The faculty assemblies, the President's Board and the Universi-ty Council make a decision based on the report by the appointment committee. The recruitment nego-tiations are carried out by the President and the Administrative Director.
The university guarantees an outside perspective through the presence of an external expert on the appointment committee and through an evaluation of the candidate by at least two independent ex-ternal, preferably international, reviewers. The new appointment procedures at the University of Basel meet the latest international standards for appointment procedures.
