Tales – Multimedia Online Courses (University of Basel)
Tales are multimedia online courses and publicly accessible learning resources. The New Media Center of the University of Basel produces the Tales courses in collaboration with lecturers. Lecturers at the University of Basel offer these courses as a supplement to their teaching.

Barrierefreiheit im digitalen Unterricht und Studium
In der Schweiz lebt schätzungsweise jeder zehnte Mensch mit einer Behinderung oder chronischen Krankheit. Dieser Anteil wird auch unter Studierenden anzutreffen sein.
Die Inklusion von Studierenden und Forschenden mit Behinderungen oder chronischen Krankheiten ist der Universität Basel selbstverständlich: Sie sollen ohne Barrieren studieren bzw. forschen können. Entsprechende Vorgaben sind in verschiedenen Grundlagendokumenten der Universität festgehalten, zudem ist sie gesetzlich dazu verpflichtet.
The Resistant Mosquito
Malaria has been the scourge of humanity for too long. Ever since scientists at the end of the 19th century discovered that the malaria parasite is transmitted by mosquitoes, controlling the ‘malaria mosquitoes’ has been the most effective tool against malaria. Yet as recently as 2020, there were still 241 million cases of malaria globally, and at least 627,000 deaths, the majority in sub-Saharan Africa.
Malaria mosquitoes are becoming resistant to the insecticides that have been so effective at controlling them. This course will look at why and how this is happening, its impact, and what can be practically done to address it. This helps us to remain ahead of the game in the fight against malaria.
Writing For Multimedia
Writing for multimedia is different from writing for lectures or academic papers. When we write for academic peers, journals or students, we can use technical terms, present a lot of information, and construct complex sentences.
When we write for multimedia, our writing has to be pitched differently. We have to think like a learner – a learner who is perhaps new to a topic. We have to ask ourselves how we need to address learners so that they understand what we’re saying.
In under one hour, this course gives you tips on how to write for multimedia and what to think about when you’re preparing your scripts and slides.
Gender and Labour in the Global South
The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development describes 17 global goals. The labour market plays a major role in achieving them.
In this course, you will use a gender perspective to analyse labour market issues in three locations in the Global South. Even if women participate more in the paid labour market, gender discrimination in access to decent work persists.
The testimonies from women workers from Nepal, Laos and Rwanda will help you when you discuss local and global issues. Investigate important theoretical concepts to understand the importance of decent work for sustainable development.

Seit Herbstsemester 2020 stellt die Universität Basel Dozierenden ein neues Werkzeug zur Ergänzung der digitalen Lehre zur Verfügung.
