Innovation Funding

The University of Basel supports innovation pilot projects as well as Proof of Concept (PoC) studies in order to bring technologies to market faster. For spin-offs, it arranges a network of contacts with venture capitalists.

Innovation pilot projects at the University of Basel
Innovative project ideas that are not yet ready for an Innosuisse project can receive a maximum of CHF 50,000 in funding. Two deadlines per year (1 February & 1 September 2018: leaflet.

Proof of Concept funding from the University of Basel
Project support for the translation of research findings into applications and the founding of spin-off companies. Max. CHF 30,000 (generally).

R&D projects of Innosuisse
Research and development (R&D) projects of the CTI are an important instrument for research and development cooperation between industry and researchers from the University of Basel.

Bridge program of the Innosuisse and SNSF
Regular national calls for Proof of Concept funding for young researchers and Discovery funding for experienced researchers.

European instruments
The Euresearch office at the University of Basel advises on innovation funding within the scope of European funding sources.

Entrepreneurship – for spin-offs

Innosuisse preliminary studies funding for start-ups
Start-ups can apply to Innosuisse to receive an innovation checque, which can be used to fund preliminary studies and concept developments to discover the technology transfer potential of an idea or technology. Applications for max. 15,000 CHF can be sent to Innosuisse at any time via this form.

EVA – the Basel life sciences start-up agency
EVA offers coaching, networking and venture capital for start-ups in the life sciences. EVA is supported by Basler Kantonalbank and Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank and has close links with the Inkubator and the BioValley Business Angels Club (BioBAC).

BaseLaunch
Fifteen-month acceleration program for start-ups in the life sciences and an initiative of BaselArea.swiss. 

Venture Kick
Philantropic three-stage funding model supporting Swiss start-ups. Start-ups can win up to 130,000 CHF.

W.A. De Vigier Prize
The oldest and highest-value funding award for young entrepreneurs from Switzerland. Up to five funding awards a year, each worth CHF 100,000 pro Jahr.

Swiss Technology Award
Prize for technologies and innovations from Swiss higher education institutions, awarded during the Swiss Economic Forum.

Venture
Venture is a Switzerland-wide competition for young entrepreneurs with a total annual prize money of CHF 120,000.

ZKB Pionierpreis
Each year, Zürcher Kantonalbank hands out a prize of just under CHF 100,000 to excellent start-ups.
