PHB Infektionskrankheiten Cluster

Infektionen sind mit erheblicher Morbidität und Mortalität assoziiert. Das Spektrum und der klinische Verlauf von Infektionen reichen von Kolonisierung bis hin zu schweren, unmittelbar lebensbedrohlichen Infektionskrankheiten. Der Verlauf ist höchst variabel und abhängig sowohl vom Erreger als auch vom Wirt. Deren komplexes Zusammenspiel bestimmt den klinischen Ausgang, weshalb Infektionskrankheiten ein ideales Feld für die personalisierte Medizin darstellen.

Bioinformatikexperte des PHB Infektionskrankheiten-Clusters

Im Oktober 2019 trat Dr. Alfredo Mari dem PHB-Team bei, um die Forschungsaktivitäten im Bereich Infektionskrankheiten zu unterstützen. Alfredo ist Computational Biologist und wird in der DBM Bioinformatics Core Facility untergebracht. Für das Infectious Disease Cluster führt er bioinformatische Analysen zu Forschungsprojekten von epidemiologischer Relevanz durch, hauptsächlich im Bereich der vergleichenden Genomik und der klinischen Bakteriologie. Alfredo arbeitet eng mit der diagnostischen Abteilung der Abteilung für Klinische Mikrobiologie des Universitätsspitals Basel (USB) sowie mit anderen öffentlichen und akademischen Partnern zusammen.
